Seeking Joy
Are you a joy seeker?
The dictionary definition of joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Joy comes in moments, which is beautiful, as it lets us experience a feeling of great pleasure numerous times a day, every day.
I strive to live in the moment, and seeking joy helps me achieve this as I am a dreamer, and I can find myself in my head or thinking far in the future more often than not. Many years ago, stress and anxiety controlled my life. By seeking joy, I learned the anxiety would lessen, and my thoughts would shift to now. Seeking joy is now my trick to staying present, grounded, and completely aware of what is going on at the moment. When joy hits me, I stop and appreciate it, no matter how fleeting, and now I instantly notice the smile come across my face and how my body relaxes.
What is really sweet is I have found that real joy is often in the little things, such as a hummingbird flying close enough to see all of its beautiful colors, hearing my teenage son laugh, watching my dogs run and play, a loving interaction, or a smile exchanged between strangers. The moments are endless if we pay attention.
These joyful moments fill me up, keep me in the now, and always ground me. I find myself seeking joy constantly, and you know what? Seek, and you shall find.
Today and every day, I challenge you to seek joy, be present, be full.
